The Shard 2024

WhichMIS? was pleased to be invited to attend the annual Bromcom event, held at the Shard in London on 12th June.

The Shard is a stunning venue with amazing facilities – the only problem being that the views through the floor to ceiling windows are a contact distraction!

The day was split into two sessions, the morning for MATs, whilst the afternoon focused on Local Authorities.

In the morning a packed room listened to a number of guest speakers talk through:

  • Trust growth strategy and challenges
  • AI in the context of MAT and school strategy
  • Trust-wide assessment and central reporting by ‘Vision’

Duncan Baldwin from the Confederation of School Trusts gave an entertaining presentation on the history of attendance improvement, including the early days of parental engagement technologies.

His session ended with a slide entitled ‘Attendance is now in crisis” and showed this table.

After a formal welcome, the afternoon session kicked-off with the infamous AI Kingsley talking about AI in Education.

Maria Temel, from Bolton Local Authority, then spoke about the procurement journey they’d been through getting their schools to choose a new MIS.

Michael Heard from SCOMIS took to the stage to outline the ‘overview’ and ‘deep dive ‘discovery sessions they have offered to just under 1,000 schools and 115 MATs.

Michael then unveiled SCOMIS’s new ‘MIS-Trends’ platform that provides access to very handy Power BI charts and tables, making it easy to view and interrogate the latest publicly available UK MIS market information: https://www.whichmis.com/mis-market-churn-spring-2024-part-2/

Some of the announcements from Bromcom included the launch of their new timetable module https://whatsnew.bromcomcloud.com/en.

Their central analytical tool ‘Vision’ has had a central office update, and they’ll soon be adding social media functionality to their parental engagement tools.

Seating plans are also being added, while improvements have been made to the school and MAT Finance applications.  Finally, their parent app gets real-time assessment input and observations.
